PSE certification (Electrical Appliance Safety Law Certification) is a mandatory safety certification for electrical products in Japan, supervised by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). It is the basic entry requirement for electrical and electronic products to enter the Japanese market. Certification is divided into two categories: diamond PSE and circular PSE. At Huak, our experts will help you navigate the requirements for both categories, ensuring a smooth and compliant Japan PSE certification process.
Among them, there are 165 products that are prone to accidents such as electric shock and fire, and are more dangerous, which are classified as "specific electrical products - called Class A electrical products", such as chargers, adapters, etc.;
The remaining 341 products with less harmful effects are classified as "non-specific electrical products - called Class B electrical products", most of which are large and small household appliances, lighting products, lithium batteries, etc.
1) Electrical safety test (withstand voltage/insulation/leakage current)
2) Mechanical structure safety assessment
3) Material flame retardancy verification
4) Key component review (such as fuses, transformers, etc.)
1) Select a registered certification body such as JET/JQA
2) Submit Japanese technical documents (including circuit diagrams/BOM tables)
3) Pass product testing (diamonds require factory review)
4) Obtain certification number (format: PSE-XXXX)
PSE certification not only ensures product safety, but is also the focus of Japanese market supervision. Products that fail to pass certification will face severe penalties, including product recalls and high fines. With the implementation of the new regulations in 2023, the certification requirements for products such as lithium batteries will be more stringent, and manufacturers need to pay special attention to the latest standard changes. Obtaining PSE certification can not only meet regulatory requirements, but also enhance the competitiveness of products in the Japanese market. It is a key step for electrical products to successfully enter the Japanese market. It is recommended that companies plan the certification process in advance and cooperate with professional organizations to ensure smooth certification.
