Food Contact Materials Testing (LFGB) is a critical certification process for materials and products that come into contact with food in The EU. The LFGB (Lebensmittel- und Futtermittelgesetzbuch – Food and Feed Code) regulates the safety of food contact materials to ensure they do not release harmful substances into food.
Applies to materials like plastics, rubber, silicone, ceramics, metals, coatings, paper, and printing inks.
Includes kitchenware, packaging, cutlery, containers, and machinery parts in contact with food.
Overall Migration Test: Measures the total amount of non-volatile substances released into food simulants.
Specific Migration Tests: Checks for restricted substances (e.g., heavy metals, BPA, phthalates).
Sensory Testing: Ensures no undesirable taste or odor is transferred to food.
Heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium VI).
Primary aromatic amines (PAAs) from azo dyes.
Formaldehyde, melamine, BPA, and phthalates.
Submit samples to an accredited laboratory.
Testing based on LFGB §30, §31, and EU regulations.
Receive a compliance report; successful products may carry the LFGB certification mark.
If you plan to get food contact material testing at HUAK lab for the purpose of obtaining an LFGB certificate, firstly, you should determine applicable regulations, identify the target market and corresponding FCM regulations:
EU: Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004, EU 10/2011 (plastics), etc.
US: FDA 21 CFR (e.g., §175–178 for plastics, §176–177 for paper).
China: GB 4806 series (e.g., GB 4806.7 for plastics, GB 4806.8 for coatings).
Other regions: Japan (JHOSPA), Korea (MFDS), etc.
HUAK offers price and sample requirements based on material type (plastic, silicone, metal, paper, etc.) and regulations.
After signing the contract, the manufacturer should provide the sample required by the HUAK lab.
1. Sample Requirements:
Provide finished products or raw materials.
Quantity depends on test scope (typically 3-5 units for migration tests)
Include product details (material type, intended use, temperature conditions).
2. Submit a Testing Request:
Contact HUAK via email/phone or visit their lab
Fill out an application form specifying:
-Test standards(e.g., EU 10/2011, GB 4806.7).
- Food simulants (based on intended food type).
-Test conditions (time/temperature, e.g., 40 °C for 10 days).
The lfgb food contact test will be conducted after the lab receives the product, test fee, and application form. It will take 7 business days. By analyzing the test data and compliance evaluation against regulatory limits, HUAK drafts the qualified report to the customer for checking.
If everything is correct, release the official report.
