VCCI (Voluntary Control Council for Interference) certification is Japan's voluntary electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) certification for information technology equipment (ITE), ensuring that the equipment complies with VCCI standards (based on CISPR 32). Although nominally voluntary, this certification is one of the key EMC compliance requirements for entering the Japanese market, and products that fail to pass VCCI certification may affect market acceptance.
Class B equipment refers to the equipment that must meet the limit requirements of Class B. It is for products used in home environment. Class A equipment: it must meet the limit requirements of Class A. ITE equipment other than Class B.
The applicant provides the product specification and related technical documents to the certification company to confirm the quotation. The applicant pays, fills in the applicant form, and sends samples to the certification company for testing. The test lab tests the product and issues the draft of report to application for checking. Once the draft is eady, test lab issues the final version to applicant.

Test time: 1-2 weeks
Validity period: unlimited (standard expires and needs to be updated)
• VCCI certification is non-mandatory, but information technology products sold in Japan are generally required to apply.
• VCCI certification to prove the quality of the product, reduce the risk of electromagnetic interference between devices, ensure the stability of use, and enhance the credibility of the product in the Japanese market.
• Manufacturers should first apply to become members of VCCI before they can use the VCCI logo.
In order to obtain VCCI approval, the EMI test report provided must be issued by a VCCI registered and approved testing agency. Japan currently has no standards for immunity.
For IT equipment manufacturers exporting to the Japanese market, it is crucial to plan VCCI certification in advance. Passing the certification can not only avoid the risk of product recalls, but also win the trust of Japanese customers and lay the foundation for market expansion.
