What is EU REACH Certification?

REACH stands for the EU Regulation Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. It is a chemical regulatory framework established by the European Union, which entered into force on June 1, 2007.

REACH has an extremely broad scope. In practice, it applies to products and manufacturing processes across nearly all industries, ranging from mining, textiles and apparel, light industry to electrical and mechanical sectors.

The core objective of REACH is to ensure consumerused products do not contain hazardous chemicals harmful to human health. Therefore, consumer goods, chemicals and raw materials manufactured within the EU or imported into the EU market must complete registration, testing and approval for hazardoussubstance content. Any product exceeding the specified limit values shall be prohibited from being placed on the EU market.

What is a REACH Test Report?

A REACH test report is issued after a product finishes REACH testing. It records the percentage content of various chemical substances in the product, compliance status with REACH requirements, and potential health risks to human beings.

Does REACH require factory audits and annual fees?

Different from CCC and UL certification, REACH generally does not require annual factory audits. Only product safety testing is required, so there are no recurring costs such as annual fees or maintenance charges.

Three wellrecognized environmental standards in the international furniture industry are DMF (skinsensitizing substance), REACH 84 and CARB. They constitute a complementary environmentalprotection system.

Unlike the RoHS Directive, REACH covers a far wider range. Amazon requires sellers to comply with EU Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. This regulation sets heavymetal limits for articles containing metallic components, and requires manufacturers to provide REACH test reports covering cadmium, nickel and lead restrictions.

REACH testing is performed on material basis. There is no fixed expiry date for REACH reports. A report remains valid as long as the tested material and REACH test specifications stay unchanged.
