Must-Read for Cross-Border Sellers: Canada SOR Compliance Standards for Children’s Products & Listing Approval Guide

For sellers targeting the Canadian market, children’s goods are a high-demand category, yet they are also subject to stringent compliance inspections.

Many sellers offer quality products but repeatedly fail platform reviews due to issues such as non-compliant product photos, incomplete test reports and mismatched standards. These problems will result in listing removal, application rejection and store traffic restrictions. To legally sell children’s products in Canada, valid SOR compliance documentation is a mandatory entry requirement.

Combined with the latest platform submission rules, this guide clearly explains photo requirements, test report specifications and applicable standards for all categories of children’s products.Follow these practical tips to avoid review pitfalls and pass platform verification smoothly.

What is SOR Compliance?

SOR represents the core regulatory framework for consumer product safety in Canada. All products intended for children aged 14 and under sold in Canada must comply with corresponding SOR regulations.

Platforms enforce strict rules on children’s merchandise.Sellers are required to submit authentic and valid third-party test reports alongside standard product photos.Listings will only be approved after both document reviews are passed.Any missing document,non-standard material or incorrect standard application will lead to review failure.

Core Rules for Product Photo Submission

Product photos are the first checkpoint of platform review. Many sellers get rejected simply because of problematic images. Please comply with the following mandatory rules for a hassle-free review:

Original & unedited images

Use genuine on-site photos that fully display the complete product(e.g. photos of all six sides).Images must be clear with no retouching, filters, cropping distortion, jagged edges or blurriness.Stock images, professionally edited pictures and renderings are strictly prohibited.

Clear & authentic product labels

All original labels, including manufacturer name, product specifications, origin and safety marks, must be fully visible and legible.Do not use self-printed paper labels, adhesive tapes, overlapping stickers or cover original markings. All labels shall be permanent factory markings.

Consistency between photos and actual products

The product in photos must be identical to the SKU images and product descriptions on your store, including appearance, size, labels and accessories.Any discrepancy will be deemed non-compliant and result in application rejection.

Requirements for Test Reports

Once photo review is passed, the test report will be the key for final verification.Platforms only accept authentic, complete and valid third-party test reports matching relevant product standards.A qualified SOR test report shall contain all items below:

· Full product information(name,specifications,applicable age group,materials,etc.)

· Complete and accurate manufacturer details

· Comprehensive test items, data and pass results

· Photos of the tested samples consistent with the listed SKU

· Official stamp or signature from an accredited third-party testing laboratory

Important Note:Different categories of children’s products apply to distinct SOR standards. All relevant test items must be fully covered. Incomplete testing or misapplied standards will invalidate the report.
